Jane MitchellOne on One: A Woman's Journey In a Male Dominated World
The 27-time Emmy Award-winning Jane Mitchell is an accomplished broadcast journalist and author. Her passion for storytelling stems from her growing up in a Navy family, traveling the world and being encouraged by her mother, who was a teacher, to write about her experiences. In 2010, while still full time at Channel 4 San Diego, she ventured into an independent project and new dimension of her career by writing and releasing a book One on One - My Journey with Hall of Famers, Fan Favorites and Rising Stars. The Foreword is by Dick Enberg and Tony Gwynn. For 15 years, she produced and anchored One on One with Jane Mitchell, giving viewers an in-depth look at San Diego's top sports figures, many known throughout the nation. She was never a big sports fan, but fell in love with baseball at her first spring training in '97. She brings her newfound appreciation for baseball and football to her work, but more than that, peels back the layers of a player's often rough and tough game-day facade, to reveal their many layers of struggle, success, triumph and tragedy, humor and humility that make them who they are on and off the field. Their vulnerability and strength are revealed in a way that is both appreciated by the players, and welcomed by new and die-hard fans, alike. 100 shows are in the archives with interviews of such favorites and greats including Ken Caminiti, Tim Flannery, Tony Gwynn, Trevor Hoffman, Ted Williams, Jake Peavy, Doug Flutie, LaDainian Tomlinson, Drew Brees and Junior Seau. Jane was also as a feature reporter for the Padres pre-game show, the Postgame show and co-hosted the in-depth interview program Forefront as well as the annual Holiday Bowl Parade. A San Diego area native, she's graduated from the University of California, San Diego with Political Science honors, and earned a Master of Science in Journalism from Chicago's prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. She began her career in Wichita Falls, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma, reporting on everything from teacher strikes to tornadoes. She returned home as a producer/reporter at KNSD-TV and then joined Cox Communications to produce and report for a special channel for the Republican National Convention in San Diego. She was then hired to help create Channel 4 San Diego before its launch in 1997 and was an integral part of the channel through 2011 when the Padres/Cox television deal ended. With an entrepreneurial spirit, she is founder and president of One on One Enterprises, determined to build on her brand and mantra: Perpetuate the Positive. Be Part of "The Good Sports Story." Jane volunteers at various community events and is Board Chairman of the ALS Association, Greater San Diego Chapter, in honor of her father who died of Lou Gehrig's Disease. She enjoys staying fit, playing the piano and playing tourist and traveler in San Diego and around the world.
